Seven last words of our dying Lord
Condemned to the cross as King of the Jews;
First prayed forgiveness from His Father
For those who "know not what they do".

With love to His mother, "Behold your son",
And then to John, "Behold your mother".
He gave His mother to all of us
Entrusting her care to another.

Two crucified also, that day for their crimes,
One spewed jeers and mocking cries;
Another humbly begged his Lord to remember
He responded,"...you will be with me in Paradise".

"I thirst", Christ stated, but not for water,
But for the souls that He set free;
Then with anguish, He cried to His Father,
"My God, why have You forsaken me"?

Three hours of agony upon that hill,
His sigh, "It is finished", with all He endured;
"Father into your hands I commend my spirit"
And breathed His last; our redemption secured.
