The Healing Must Begin
From Florida's southern coast,
up to the northern tip of Maine.
Across the Mississippi oer the
Rocky Mountain Range
From the valleys and the desert
to the California Coast
Peoples seeking freedom,
saw our country as the host.

Twas once a mighty nation
and the bastion of the free.
Immigrants came from every point,
new citizens to be.
Our country played a model role
for all democracy.
But now the God, who once shed grace,
sheds tears for you and me.

Our nation suffers now a cleft;
It is no longer whole.
It's lost much more than meets the eye;
it may have lost its soul.
No longer indivisible,
nor under God one nation
Hollow is the shell within;
there's naught for celebration.

The wounds are deep, the pain is great,
the time for healing long.
For decades pundits will debate,
over what is right and wrong.
Will eer this nation emerge again
as a nation under God?
And tread once more in footsteps
where our founding fathers trod?

If we can blend diversities
and seek one common goal.
If we can work unselfishly
to heal our nation's soul.
As we reach out to others
with the Stars and Stripes unfurled.
God once again will bless us
as a leader of the world.
