When I was a child, I thought as a child,
And my ways were childish ways.
I could act out all of my fantasies,
During each of my carefree days.

Then as time ticked off the passing years,
I took on the role of a man.
I began to discard my childish ways,
It was part of the Master Plan.

I turned then to more serious thoughts,
As world-wide woes evolved.
But I found no matter what I tried,
The problems remained unsolved.

So now in my senior phase of life,
I am greatly pleased to see.
Not all of my childish childhood ways,
Had been thrown out by me.

To avoid the tag of "strange old coot"
If I make a social flub,
I've signed up for a membership
In the Second Childhood Club.

This card will give me license now,
To act undignified.
And try some things, perhaps before,
I never might have tried.

I might just sing a ribald song,
And ham it up a bit.
"In his second childhood," they will say,
And think no more of it.

And then if I too silly seem,
Get a little out of hand.
I'll flash my Second Childhood Card,
And all will understand.
